sunday stash: it's all a numbers game

March 29, 2009

Numbers. They can mean so many things.

24 hours in a day. 7 days in a week. So much can happen in one week.

Today is my birthday. It is getting harder to remember how old I actually am now that I'm past 30 : )

This week I also bought a new (well second hand, but new to me) car. Less than 7 days later I crashed it. I'm ok, and I'm sure the car will be too once the nice mechanic and crash repairer work their magic. But it's never easy seeing your car being towed away, and having to phone your parents to explain what has happened to the car they just loaned you money for.

I'm hoping the next 7 days will be less eventful (or at least, be filled with happy events).

Now for the informational part of this post:

Fabric is by Michael Miller, purchased from Amitie.

If I ever visit Japan, this shop will be on the top of my 'must visit' list.

Psst... they have an online shop

Discovered via the delightful bookhou journal blog.

i love ticking boxes

March 22, 2009

Oh, how I would love one of these notepads in my car so I could vent my frustrations (anonymously of course, I'm not wanting to get involved in any road rage incidents!) at all those drivers out there that get on my nerves.

This and other great stationery available from Knock Knock. I promise you will have a giggle at some of the crazy things they come up with.

sunday stash: with thanks

I'm back.

It may be a slow start, as there is not much creating going on around here at the moment, but I didn't want to stay away too long. I felt a bit naughty... reading all your blogs, hearing about what you've been up to... and not reciprocating.

I wanted to say a big thanks for all the comments and emails I have received recently, it is a comforting feeling to know I am part of a wider network of craftsters and bloggers who take the time to write to someone they have never met in person. I love hearing from all of you : )

OK. On with the show... a bit of a late post, but I did end up attending the Stitches and Craft Show last week. It's all a bit of a blur but I did meet some great people (it's good to put faces to names) including Martine from greenolive textile design (that's her lovely stand pictured above). Martine screen prints the most gorgeous linens, and I was lucky enough to receive some of her designs including my favourite type one. They have been added to my stash, and I am already dreaming of what I am going to make them into.

A big thank you also to Elissa (Kelani) and Shannon (Aunty Cookie) for showing my wares on their stand. You gals are great, and your stand looked fantastic (and was constantly busy too - congratulations!).

Happy Sunday everyone.

a little blog break

March 15, 2009

To all my lovely readers...I am taking a short break from my blog for the next little while. Perhaps a few days, perhaps a few weeks...there have been some changes in my personal life to sort through, which I need to focus my energy on.

I hope you'll stay with me and check back often. I'll be back soon, I promise.

who doesn't love a giveaway?

image from the sunday project

I thought long and hard about whether to write a post directing you to the delightful Sunday Project blog, where the generous Alex is giving away one of her Best in Show brooches to celebrate the relaunch of her Etsy shop. Although it might increase my chances of winning by not telling you about it, I decided I couldn't really keep something like this to myself : ) So pop over to her blog and leave a comment, and you may be the lucky recipient. Can I borrow the brooch sometime if you win?

a pleasant way to spend a sunday afternoon

March 9, 2009

Yesterday we attended the wedding of two good friends at Elmswood Estate Winery in the beautiful Yarra Valley. After a chilly and overcast start to the day it was quite a nice surprise to see the weather clear up into a glorious Autumn afternoon and evening.

The bride wore white and arrived in style in a shiny black London taxi cab (the couple met while working in London). It was a lovely ceremony that fitted the bride and groom perfectly, followed by a delicious dinner and much drinking of wine (except for me, who was driving). I couldn't think of a nicer way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

sunday stash: vroom vroom

March 8, 2009

I've been loving the scooter fabric from Echino so much that I decided to buy some other prints from the range, including this car one. I'm imagining it on smaller handbag size journals, and have already made a few coin purses from it. It looks great teamed with the bright sunny yellow fabric I've used as a lining on the purses!

Today we are off on a drive to the country, to attend a wedding in the beautiful Yarra Valley. Alas, the car we are travelling in is not as cool as the one on the fabric. I suppose reliability and safety are more important than cool factor, right?

raindrops are falling

March 4, 2009

Today has been the most glorious day in Melbourne - it has been raining! Many of you may be thinking 'what is this crazy girl on about?', but it has been so long since we have seen decent rain here. I'd almost forgotten what it was like having to dash from the car to a covered awning so as not to get drenched, or how nice it can be to listen to the rain and wind outside while sitting all warm and snug inside. Perfect weather for Etsy browsing...I thought I would share a few favourites in keeping with today's theme:

1. Love Card by Wheeler Studio
2. Nimbus Cloud Earrings by Grace Handmade Jewellery
3. Raincloud Egg by Craft Cake Designs
4. Wow Rainjacket by Emily Katz
5. My Red Umbrella by Carambatack
6. Umbrella Buttons by Buttons and Such

When do you become too 'grown up' to go jumping in puddles?

March 2, 2009

In other news and happenings, be sure to pop by the Kelani / Aunty Cookie stand at the Melbourne Stitches & Craft Show next week. Apart from gorgeous fabrics by these two lovely ladies, you will be able to check out some very special rabbit & the duck products including some limited edition journals and other must-have accessories. There will be lots more handmade crafty goodness on offer, so I'm going to have to be very self-controlled when I visit. See you at the show : )

now available at the thread den!

The rabbit and the duck were out and about today dropping off some journals and envelope clutches at the sewing heaven that is Thread Den, in North Melbourne. It was all I could do to stop myself from getting out my credit card to buy some of the gorgeous things they have. I have my eye on a very cute denim skirt with red polka dot trim and 2 big red buttons on the front. And about 5 brooches. Oh and a necklace as well. That's the trouble having your products stocked in a shop that you love, it's always so tempting to come home with new handmade loveliness!

sunday stash: again with the tape measures

March 1, 2009

Still on the topic of tape measures - I finally gave in and bought some of this fabric from Amitie this week. It's already been turned into pockets for some journal covers, and will soon feature on some new coin purses I've been working on. I set myself a slightly unrealistic goal of getting 40 coin purses sewn up today. As I write this, four of them have been pinned. The rest are still in pieces all over the dining room table. It's going to be a late night I think, as I need to have these finished by tomorrow! OK...enough blogging, time for sewing...
