hello daylesford

March 31, 2010

This weekend sees the rabbit & the duck loading up the car for a picturesque drive to Daylesford, about an hour and a half out of Melbourne. I absolutely love this region of Victoria and have even considered relocating here : )

The weather is meant to be sunny, it's a long weekend, so what other reason do you need to get out of the city? Come and say hi : )

sunday stash: more vintage love

March 28, 2010

Fabric stash at the Mornington Antique Centre

Yesterday a friend and I headed down the peninsula for a visit to the Mornington Antique Centre. Oh goodness! I was almost giddy with excitement as we walked into the absolutely MASSIVE warehouse filled with all manner of lovely old things.

I scored a few bargains - an old wooden ironing board and a beautiful old brown leather suitcase, both perfect for upcoming market stall displays. I also snapped up a few vintage dresses and a very frilly nightdress (hello nanna!).

I've heard that the centre is due to close soon (I'm not sure when) so I'm already planning my next visit. My friend and I spent a good 3 hours wandering about and it was barely enough time to scratch the surface!

Happy Sunday xx

hello little lulu

March 23, 2010

Did you know that the lovely Lulu store on Carlisle Street in Balaclava has a new sister store? Little Lulu has just recently opened right next door and is full of loveliness for little kids and big kids alike. AND if you pop in on a Tuesday or Wednesday you will find me behind the counter!

Today's project = a new window display. I love the caterpillar!

sunday stash: up up and away

Some of you will remember reading about my love affair with hot air balloons. Last night while searching on Etsy for fabric to make my first ever quilt I came across this 1960's print. It took all of 5 seconds to add it to my cart and checkout. I'm so excited! I hope it lands in my mailbox soon!

i heart: new echino

March 17, 2010

all images: fabricworm

How have I missed finding this until now? Echino's new spring (in the northern hemisphere!) range is due out in May. I'm in love!

I'm already imagining cushions on my sofa made with that black camera print.

And the bicycles! So cute!

Whenever I see great fabric like this it makes me so happy to be doing what I'm doing : )

another weekend, another market

i heart: nut & bright

One of the best things about markets is getting to meet lots of lovely new people (customers + stallholders alike). Yesterday I was lucky enough to have great market neighbours on both sides. To my left, the local green grocer, who kept me well supplied with drinks and snacks. And to my right, the lovely girls from Nut & Bright with their pretty vintage inspired dresses.

After participating in a bit of a swap I came home with the above dress. I love it! You can wear it two ways - front to back, or back to front.

This one almost came home with me too but I restrained myself....

For more cute dresses, visit the Nut & Bright blog. Gorgeous!

is it friday already?

March 12, 2010

That means it's time to pack the car again for this weekend's market adventures. Really I should just leave my market gear in the car permanently, it would certainly give me more space around the house!

On Sunday I'll be listening to jazz, trying some swing dance lessons, sampling some delicious food and lazing about in the sun at the Mordialloc Festival By the Bay. Oh, and running my stall in between all of that ; ) Hope to see you there!

a rainy day in melbourne town

March 6, 2010

This morning I set off in jeans and a t-shirt to meet Penny. We went op shopping. Checked out the Sisters Market at St Kilda town hall. Had sushi for lunch. Browsed the shops on Carlisle Street. All the while, some ominous looking grey clouds were drifting in. When the sky turned black as night we decided to call it a day and head home. I cut through the St Kilda library to get back to my car. Decided to stop for a loo break. Big mistake! I went to leave the library and was faced with bucketing rain, hail and wind. After waiting it out for awhile I decided to make a run for it. Reaching the car, I discovered it almost knee high in water! Shoes off, jeans up, and a bit of a swim later, I was out of the rain and on my way home. What a day!

The beautiful St Kilda town hall.

The lovely Tamara from Retro Print Revival - what a gorgeous display!

And now for some chocolate slice and a cup of tea....

sunday stash: a piece of cloth

March 1, 2010

OK, I know I am a day late with my Sunday Stash post, but I did buy these on Sunday, so that must count for something right?

Yesterday while setting up my stall at the North Melbourne Market, I spied a table piled high with bundles of vintage fabric. How could I resist? I'm not normally a fan of navy blue, but as soon as I saw these I knew I needed to have them. I'm not sure what project I will use them for, but I think they will become something for me - quilt, anyone?

Keep an eye on A Piece of Cloth for more vintage loveliness.
