a head start on spring cleaning

June 26, 2010

This week I thought it would be fun to organise my many boxes of fabric remnants left over from bigger projects. Oh the joy of tipping all my fabric on the floor, and the sofa, and the work table, and being able to dig through it all. Reminiscing over favourite designs. Discovering patterns I thought were long gone.

Now, my fabric sorting was done with a purpose in mind. Firstly, after many requests at markets, I have put together a small number of fabric covered brooches. Hooray!

And secondly, I have put together a few remnant packs. Each pack is based on a colour theme - I'm quite partial to the red and navy collection myself and was almost tempted to keep it after seeing how good the fabrics looked together. But no, these fabrics are destined for new homes, new projects, a second life.

Available tomorrow at the North Melbourne Market - 10am to 2pm at the Lithuanian Club on Errol Street. The early bird catches the worm, or fabric, or brooch, in this case!

why should kids have all the fun?

Continuing my obsession with hot air balloons, how cute are these? I think I need the full set.

You can find these lovelies at Baby's Got Style. I'm also quite in love with this lunch box. Why should kids have all the fun?

neighbourly love

A couple of shots from Saturday's Modish Market at the Malvern Town Hall. Everybody needs good neighbours - and I was lucky enough to have two great neighbours on the day!

On my left - The Tea Maiden - whose teas are simply divine. And those aprons - how gorgeous! My current obsession with aprons is still in full swing - I love, love, love the red and white floral one!

And on my right - Green Olive Design. I was so tempted to buy that red tweed handbag on the dressmaker doll, if only I hadn't had to pay for a new battery for my car on the morning of the market I may have seriously considered it.

And yes, I left the house before dawn on Saturday and went to start my car.... to no avail. I then proceeded to wait for the RACV to arrive - over an hour later (and very close to the time the market was starting) they jump start my car and tell me I need to go and see the local mechanic to get a new battery. What a morning! I finally arrived and was set up an hour after the official start time. I'm thinking of it as being 'fashionably late'. Hm....

rainy days and polka dot umbrellas

Brrr.... it's cold and windy and about to rain outside.

I wish I'd had the foresight to take my umbrella from the car this morning.

I also wish I had a red polka dot umbrella as cute as this one.

i heart: vintage aprons

June 8, 2010

Lately I've been thinking that I'd like to start a collection of something. In primary school it was postage stamps, and I also had a pretty cool collection of erasers. Never mind that I gained most of them by giving out the answers to homework questions in return for the best eraser in a kid's pencil case....

Anyhow, I have a love of all things vintage and think that a collection of vintage aprons might be the way to go. Beautiful, and practical. Anything that encourages me to bake more also gains bonus points.

Perhaps a few of these lovelies will kick start my collection:

Sheer floral apron - available here.

I do love an apron with a pocket - available here.

Red polka dot apron - available here.

And how cute is this blue gingham number? Love the cocktail shaker accessorising! Available here.

the girl loves to bake

A foggy Friday morning was the perfect setting for home baked banana bread and morning tea with the lovely Anna from Able and Game and Penny from Pocket Carnival.

There was tea drinking. Chatting. Perhaps a little bit of gossip. And a small amount of business talk, just enough so we could call the morning a 'business meeting'.

And now it's time for more tea and cake I think!
