I've just looked at the calendar and remembered that I'm doing a market this Saturday. Yes, how organised am I! It will be Rabbit & the Duck's last market in Melbourne until October sometime, so if you can stop by the Malvern Town Hall on Saturday to say hello we'd love to see you!

winter woolies giveaway!

Brrr it's cold in Melbourne at the moment, I've been wearing my favourite scarves + hats + gloves and keeping warm with hot cups of tea and extra blankets on the bed.

I've been attempting to knit a new scarf for oh, the past year, and I think I've finally realised I'm not a knitter at heart. I do enjoy knitting, but somewhere along the line I missed the patience gene. I'm more a 'start and finish in a day' type of crafty girl.

So, this morning I was going through my knitting stash and found this Rowan pattern book. It's full of fun projects but I'm pretty sure all of them would take me longer than a day so I've decided the book needs a new home. what really goes on in the rabbit & the duck studio

As much as I would love to say that I wear a pretty frock and always have my hair and makeup perfect while sewing, the reality is that I'm usually in tracksuit pants and ugg boots with my hair tied up in a messy ponytail. 
Today's sewing soundtrack was from the 1980's. While searching for a video to include with this post, I found this great clip of a classic 80's hit by The Communards, which has been used as the soundtrack to some wonderful dance routines featuring Gene Kelly. A delight to watch! 

sunny days and baked treats

It's amazing what a sunny day does to ones general mood. I feel happier, lighter, and more inspired. 

To celebrate this unusual burst of Winter sunshine I decided to bake a custard tart. It's currently cooling on the kitchen bench, it's my first attempt at gluten free pie crust but so far I'm happy with how things look. Well, perhaps not 100% happy with the crinkled tea towel in the photograph, but it's too nice a day to be inside ironing....

simple living: the price of materialism

Today I wanted to share this short video on the price of materialism, and some of the things we can do to move towards a happier, more sustainable way of living. 
I like how the video talks about social and community values. How spending more time with each other, and connecting with our local community, is the way forward. I like to think that I am making an effort in this area by supporting independent local businesses, and buying handmade or second hand when I do need to make a purchase. But I know I still have a way to go!
